Issue:Lighting applications often use dimmers to vary the voltage applied to the bulbs they control
Product Line:LV Transformers
Environment:Applies to Sealed Resin Epoxy Encapsulated Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric
Cause:If a Transformer is used to reduce or increase the voltage used in the system, the Transformer primary voltage must sometimes be changed to vary the voltage applied to the bulbs
Resolution:Commercially available variable output transformers which produce the proper voltage range may be used for this purpose, as can very high quality electronic dimmers which do not allow for any Direct Current output on the transformer primary. Direct current on the transformer coil from any source can have damaging effects and should be avoided. If in doubt about the non-sinusoidal quality of the output signal from the electronic dimmer, elect not to use it.
