How are preset speeds set up on the ATV312 drive?

Issue:
Preset speeds on the ATV312 drive.

Product Line:
Altivar 312

Environment
:All

Cause:
Preset speeds

Resolution:
Preset speeds can be assigned by the Logic Inputs, or via Communication networks.  Program the drive for Preset Speeds using SoMove or by navigating the display built into the drive.  The programming manual section on Preset Speeds is attached for reference.

Logic inputs
RdY-- > Fun- > PSS- > PS2 = LIx.  Change the value of PS2 to the Logic input you want to use to trigger the Preset Speed.  Here “x” refers to the available logic inputs number. When this particular “LIx” is ON, the drive will run to SP2 speed value (preset speed 2).  For example, if you assign PS2 = LI3, when LI3 input is closed the drive will go to Preset Speed 2 (SP2 value entered).

Similarly, PS4, PS8 and PS16 can also be assigned to other Logic inputs to activate 4, 8 or 16 preset speeds operation respectively.  Preset speeds, SP2 – SP16 can be found under “Fun- > PSS- ” menu using the Jog dial on the drive.   Consult the Preset speed chart in the Programming Manual for how to use the different preset values.

Communication networks
RdY--> CtL > LAC = L3
Assign any one bit from bit 11th to 15th of control word of particular communication network being used on which ATV312 is being used to preset Speeds (PS2, PS4, PS8 or PS16). Communication network could be one out of Modbus, CANOpen, DeviceNet or Profibus. When assigned bit of control word is HIGH, corresponding preset speed function (PS2, PS4, PS* or PS16) will be activated and accordingly SP2 to SP16 will come into effect.

Wiring:
The drive still needs the run command in order to execute Preset Speeds.  Closing the Preset Speed input is only providing the Reference (Speed value).  The drive also needs the Command (run forward/reverse) at the same time.  To use the Logic inputs, close the Run command on LI1 to 24V terminals.

Why does the ATV31 or ATV312 show a code of nSt even though there are no assignments in any of the parameters for a freewheel stop activation?

Issue:
Why the ATV31/ATV312 shows nSt even if there is no freewheel stop activated?

Product Line:
Altivar ATV31 and ATV312

Environment:
All

Cause:
nst
The drive status is showing NST on the main display and it will not clear.  The drive will not run

Resolution:
Here are a few possible causes:

(A) If a directional run command (forward or reverse) is present on power up of the drive and the drive is set for 2C (2-wire) with [trn] transition control or 3C (3-wire) control with the LI1 NC stop being open, the drive will show nSt indicating that it will not run.
  • 2 Wire control solution:  Try setting the two wire type parameter tCt to Level control (LEL) menu  in the IO menu.
  • 3 Wire control solution: Make sure that LI1 the stop NC input is turned on when the drive is powered up.  If this input is open the drive will display NST until you close this input.

(B) Check to see if someone has pushed the stop button on the local control or the remote HMI while the drive is being commanded in the terminal mode with starting and stopping via the logic inputs.
Solution: power cycle the drive to see if the NST clears

(C)  If the reference channel or the control channel is assigned to Modbus or CANopen, the drive controller displays nSt on power up and remains stopped until the communication bus sends a command.
Solution:  If the drive is programmed for NET control, you will need to write a Hex 6, then Hex 7 then Hex F to get the drive to start.

(D) Check to see if you have a logic input assigned to a freewheel stop in the FUN menu StC parameter then NST parameter.
Solution: Turn on your logic input that is assigned to freewheel stop. Otherwise, the drive will stay in NST mode until you turn on the assigned logic input.

To make adjustments to the drive parameters, see the Altivar 31 or Altivar 312 Programming manuals.

Can the Altivar ATV312 drive be used as a phase converter?

Issue:
Can the ATV312 be used as a phase converter?

Product Line:
Altivar 312 for single phase line power

Environment:
VFD for single phase line power

Cause:
VFDs to be used as phase converters, to convert single phase line power to 3 phase line power.

Resolution:
Schneider offers the ATV312 that can be used to convert single phase line power to 3 phase output.  For selection: see the ATV312 quick start annex link below.
https://www.schneider-electric.us/en/download/document/S1B16328/

Using a drive as a phase converter is possible only for motorsDO NOT USE DRIVES FOR PHASE CONVERTER FOR MACHINES.
The "input phase loss detection" must be deactivated (IPL=no)
