      Under Certain Conditions, an STBNIP2212 Will Default to its MAC Derived IP Address when Power Cycled Using Exec. v.2.27

      Release Notice

      The purpose of this resolution is to inform users that the STBNIP2212 Ethernet NIM could default to the MAC derived IP address under certain conditions.

      Goals and Symptoms

      An STBNIP2212 containing an Exec less than version 2.27, has an IP address saved in memory, and has its rotary switch set to Internal, will retain its configured IP address on a power cycle.


      If an STBNIP2212 Exec is upgraded to version 2.27, the configured IP address will not be assigned to the Ethernet NIM on a power cycle. Instead, the STBNIP2212 will assign its MAC derived IP address to the module. This is because version 2.27 now requires a valid Gateway IP and Subnet Mask to also be saved with the IP address.

      The version web page 1.19.6 and higher checks for a valid Subnet Mask and Gateway address when the new IP is saved and will warn the user if something is not valid on that page. Using any previous web page version does not warn the user (using Exec 2.27) that a Gateway and Subnet Mask must be entered.

      Causes and Fixes

      Whenever an Ethernet NIM Exec is upgraded to version 2.27 or higher, a valid Subnet Mask and Gateway IP address must be saved with the IP address. It is recommended to upgrade to the latest Web page to version (1.19.6) when Exec version 2.27 is installed.

      Under extremely rare circumstances, the "data.dat" file located in the "PowerChute Business Edition/Server" directory of the PowerChute Business Edition "Server" piece may rapidly grow to a large size. This may lead to the server running slower than normal or, in some cases, a system crash. Only machines running the "Server" piece are affected, the "Agent" and "Console" pieces of the application remain unaffected. This problem only occurs in version 6.1.

      An immediate workaround is to delete the "data.dat" file located in the "PowerChute Business Edition/Server" directory.

      The issue had been addressed back in version 6.1.1 of PowerChute Business Edition. The latest version of PowerChute Business Edition is 9.2 which may be obtained from APC's Software Downloads page at https://www.apcc.com/tools/download.

      Release Notice

      NOTICE: EXEC VERSION 2.28 FILES HAVE BEEN REMOVED PENDING FURTHER INVESTIGATION. While upgrading the STBNIP2212 from its existing V2.14 version to V2.27 or V2.28, the user may experience difficulties after the upgrade like loss of saved internal IP address and inability to get IP address while using rolename based DHCP. Note that these issues will be observed immediately after the upgrade. If the STBNIP2212 has been upgraded successfully and is in operation, there are no known issues. The firmware upgrade has been pulled off the website until the next course of action is determined. Note that the STBNIP2212 is currently shipped from the factory with a V2.14 firmware and therefore is not affected.
      The purpose of this resolution is to inform STBNIP2212 users that the Exec., Kernel, and Web pages have been upgraded to the following:

      • Exec v.2.28
      • Kernel v.2.01
      • Web page v.1.20.01

      Goals and Symptoms

      Facts and Changes

      The new Exec., Kernel and web versions are field upgradable and will work with any STBNIP2212 Ethernet NIM hardware versions. The files for the Ethernet NIM can be found on Planet or as the Attachments to this Resolution.

      Causes and Fixes

      The following issues have been resolved in this upgrade:

      1. The NIM would lockup if an excessive amount of UDP traffic was directed to it.
      2. Version 2.28 corrects a problem where the Ethernet NIM would sometimes fail to go into Run after a power cycle.
      3. When power is cycled to an ATV31 when it is connected as a preferred module on an STBNIP2212 island, the ATV31 would come back up operational but the Advantys Configuration software would continue to display the ATV31 as failed. With Exec. v.2.28, the Advantys Configuration software will not show the ATV31 as failed after an ATV31 power cycle.
      4. Output values in the 'Data I/O' web page would retain their last value if the client communications was stopped, regardless of the fallback state of the output. In this version, the 'Data I/O' values now show INVALID when this condition occurs.
      5. The STBNIP2212 'I/O Data Values' web page will now display the entire 16 bit field when an Input or Output value is displayed in Binary. The display window on previous versions was too small and would not display the entire 16 bit field.
      6. The 'Save' option in the web page 'Network Interface Module Register' now works properly.
      7. The RS232 serial communication port on the Ethernet NIM would respond to any request, regardless of the address in the request. It will now only respond to the appropriate address.
      8. The RS232 serial communication port on the Ethernet NIM is now approximately twice as fast as when the previous Exec version was installed.
      9. Can now read STBNIP2212 web page applets using Internet Explorer 7 browsers.
      10. Assigning an IP via DHCP would take over a minute and a half. With version 2.28, the IP will be assigned via DHCP in approximately 30 seconds.
      11. I/O modules on an island would fail to go into Ready if 15 or more connections were being made to the NIM during power up.
      12. Version 2.28 fixes a problem where the 'I/O Data Values' web page displayed incorrect values when 'Virtual Placeholders' were configured.
      13. The 'Process Image area' did not get set to zero if the network cable was removed from the NIM. Outputs would write the last data if the cable was reconnected. In version 2.28, the Process Image area is now cleared if the cable is disconnected and then reconnected. New data from the client is then written to the outputs.

      How to modify energy readings on a Powerlogic meter or move the values from one meter to another

      Issue
      This procedure explains how to move or transfer the Energy Readings from one meter to another meter. This function is only supported in some of the Powerlogic meters.

      Cause
      A meter is replaced by another meter, a master reset has been run on the meter, or a meter has been cleared by accident. Any of these situations could require the energy readings to be preset. Typically a new meter will start at 0 KWH. This can affect billing if the energy readings are not preset in the meter.

      Resolution
      The process of reading and writing registers in blocks can be performed using third party software such as Modscan or Modbus Tester. (Modbus Tester can be obtained from article FA180037)
      It can also be performed from the front panel of each meter to read and write individual registers. Refer to the reference manual of each meter for information on reading and writing registers.

      1. Read the Energy registers from the CM2000, CM3000, CM4000, or PM800 meters to be copied from. Make a note of the readings using Table 1.

      2. Read this entire step before beginning. Write the values noted from Step 1 to the appropriate registers 8022 - 8049 in the replacement meter. **Note: You must write the entire 28-register block to the 8022 - 8049 buffer, either as a single-block write or as 28 individual writes. The matching write-to registers are listed in Table 1.
      1. Registers 8022 - 8049 coincide with the register order read from 1700 - 1727.
      2. Register 8022 - 8049 must be an integer value between -9999 and +9999. If any register contains a value outside that range, the process will abort.
      3. The registers in the Series 2000 Circuit Monitor are not in the same sequence as the CM3000/CM4000/PM800.

      2. 81 = Invalid Command Function (Verify that the 6209 command code was written to register 8000.)

      5. Verify that the values were successfully written by reading register 1700 - 1727 in the replacement meter. Note that the values may start incrementing immediately if the meter has a load.

If a Gateway address was not provided or was assigned 0.0.0.0, the assigned IP would default to the MAC derived IP address. Exec version 2.30 does not require a Gateway address when assigning an IP via DHCP.

      The following Enhancement is included in this upgrade:
      1. A Link failure occurs when there is a disruption in communications between the Advantys Ethernet NIM and the device (ex: PLC) communicating to it. However, the outputs of an island can behave differently depending on where a link failure occurs within a network. Therefore, to allow the outputs to behave the same regardless of where the link failure occurs, an option called Link Failure Mode was added to the web pages for Exec. v2.30 in the Ethernet NIM. Further explanation is provided in the attachment Link Failure Mode Option.
         
      The following is an open issue with 2.30 that will be resolved in the next Exec release.
      1. A behavior has been indentified with version 2.30, which differs from version 2.14. After being on for approximately 15 minutes to 1 hour, the STBNIP2212 will reboot if the Rotary switches are set to "Device/Rolename" (DHCP mode) and no DHCP server is available to assign an IP address. The STBNIP2212 will not reboot if the Rotary switches are set to "Bootp" (default position) or any other position. If a bootp server is available and an IP address is assigned via DHCP, the NIM will not experience a reboot.

        A reboot causes the outputs to go to zero, which is the fallback condition.

      When configuring the FTP Alert Action on a Netbotz device, the FTP server may return error codes which may viewed in the Appliance Log. The return codes may be used to further troubleshoot the problem.

      Resolution:

      The return codes for FTP servers are:

      110 Restart marker reply. In this case, the text is exact and not left to the particular implementation; it must read: MARK yyyy = mmmm where yyyy is User-process data stream marker, and mmmm server's equivalent marker (note the spaces between markers and "=").

      120 Service ready in nnn minutes.

      125 Data connection already open; transfer starting.

      150 File status okay; about to open data connection.

      200 Command okay.

      202 Command not implemented, superfluous at this site.

      211 System status, or system help reply.

      212 Directory status.

      213 File status.

      Sybase Database Has Missing Waveforms, Missing Records Or The Performance Is Slow

      Goals and Symptoms

      Summary
      The ION meters with Sag/Swell and Transient detection require the user to configure the Nominal Voltage correctly. The meter is shipped with this value at 0 so the Sag/Swell detection sub-system is disabled. But if the user enters an incorrect value for the Nominal Voltage (for example 100 when it should be 120, or 277 when it should be 347) then the sub-system will become active but then begin to CONTINUOUSLY generate erroneous events, logs and waveforms. Hence, the Log Server will never be able to keep up.

      Symptoms

      1. Error messages from the Log Server reporting missing records or "Log position unexpectedly jumped forward from xxx to yyy"
      2. Transient events appear in the logs but there are no corresponding waveforms. Typically you will see new transient events detected every 10-50 mS.
      3. Database performance may appear to be slow.
      4. Database may grow large very fast.

      Causes and Fixes

      ResolutionSet the Nominal Voltage to the correct value. Perhaps look at a waveform to see what it should be. Or check the outputs of the Power Meter module.

      Breaker has line voltage on the line side but voltage on the load side is low and variable

      Occasionally a new circuit breaker never placed in service will appear to be open when closed, evidenced by no or low voltage on the load side with the line side energized.

      Resolution:
      Every set of contacts has a minimum voltage and current requirement to normalize and make them fully operational. This is why we have gold-plated low-level aux. contacts available for breakers--to permit operation at very low levels of current and voltage.

      Circuit breaker main contacts are subject to the same phenomenon, and since they are designed for higher current and voltage levels, they don't function well at the extremely low values.  While voltage on the supply side may be nominal, with no load connected the current flow is zero and well below the minimum required for proper operation.  
      If you place the breaker in service with at least 20% of the breaker's rated current, the resistive film will be burned off and resistance will become negligible and full voltage will be passed on to the load side.  After this, the contacts will also conduct the lower values of current.
