Momentum Relay Module Load Snubbing Requirement

What protective circuitry is required for Momentum relay output modules when switching inductive loads?

Causes and Fixes

To reduce the effects of radiated noise, it is required that snubbing components be added across inductive load devices.
For AC circuits, rule of thumb is to add a 50 ohm resistor in series with a 0.47microfarad non-polarized capacitor across the load. Minimum component ratings would be 200VAC for 120VAC powered loads and 400VAC for 220VAC powered loads.

For DC circuits, rule of thumb is to add a reverse biased clamping diode across the load. Component rating should
be 2A minimum and greater than twice the maximum load voltage.

Relay and contactor manufacturer catalogs can be consulted for commercial suppression devices matched to their
particular PRODUCTS.

Resolution:
In order to calculate and/or monitor motor power, need to consider the speed of the motor, Power factor and efficiency.
The Power Factor and Efficiency drop at lower speeds.

Here are a couple of examples/calculations:
AH3 at 60hz: 96A x 460Vx sqrt(3) x 0.7(PF &Eff) = 53.54 kW
AH3 at 30hz: 35A x 230V x sqrt(3) x 0.43(PF & Eff) = 6.0 kW

Accuracy is about 10%

Derating for high altitude
 
Resolution:
Maximum operating altitude is 3300 feet without derating. Above this, the softstart will need to be derated by by 2.2% for each additional 330 feet to the maximum of 6600 feet based upon softstart current rating.

Example:
40HP 460VAC Soft Starter is normally an ATS48D62Y however if you are going to use this unit at 6000 ft you will need to up size by 1 or more. So you will need to use a
ATS48D75Y for a 40HP 480VAC.
3300 feet is basic rating without derating.
6000 feet - 3300 feet = 2700 feet.
Derate by 2.2% each 330 additional feet.
2700 ft / 330 ft = 8.1818 X 2.2%= 18% current derate of the product.
Soft Starter is rated for 75 amps X 18%= derate of 13.5 amps
or 75amps minus 13.5 amps = 61.5 amps
ATS48D75Y now only rated for 61.5 amps not 75 amps.
 
Derating Drives operating at 6000 ft will be as follows.
62 amp ATS48D62Y is rated for only 51 amps.

The direct replacement is ATS48.

Here are a few things to consider when converting an ATS46 to ATS48 unit.

The ATS46 uses an N at the end of the part number and the ATS48 uses an Y at the end of the part number. 

The dimensions will be different. In most cases the ATS48 is smaller than its equivalent ATS46. 

The ATS48 has a built-in keypad, the ATS46 uses a removable keypad. The VW3G48101 is the remote mountable keypad kit for the ATS48. 

The shorting contactor is connected from A1 to A2, B1 to B2, C1 to C2 on the ATS46. On the ATS48 connect the shorting contactor from L1 to A2, L2 to B2, L3 to C2. Suggest using power distribution block for the input connections of the shorting contactor. 

The ATS46 had 460vac control power (a built -in control transformer is present on ATS46 soft starts). The ATS48 does not have a control transformer built-in. The control power for a ATS48 is 90-270vac and is customer supplied. Customer's typically use 120 vac for the control power for ATS48 soft starts. 

The ATS 46 had a NC (R1B-R1D) or a NO (R1A-R1C) for the fault relay. 
The ATS46 had a NO (R2A-R2C) for the End of start-up relay. 

The ATS48 has a NO (R1A-R1C) for the fault relay. 
The ATS48 has a NO (R2A-R2C) for the End of start-up relay. 
The ATS48 has a NO (R3A-R3C) for a programmable relay. 

The ATS48 does not have a NC relay (R1B-R1D on ATS46), if that contact is being used, you need an interposing relay on the ATS48. Then wire to the NC contact on the relay 
(Recommend ice cube relay w/ N/O-N/C cont. w/ coil voltage to COM) – (i.e. 8501RSD41V53 with base 8501nr41)

How do i troubleshoot a ground fault error on a Schneider Electric Conext RL, TL or CL Inverter?

Important Note: Troubleshooting Schneider Electric Conext RL, TL and CL Inverter faults including ground faults must be undertaken and completed by a CEC - Grid Connect Inverter accredited solar installer/service agent.
This is a safety requirement as failure to follow installation instructions could result in death or serious injury in addition to voiding terms of warranty.

The isolation impedance of both the positive leg to earth and negative leg to earth can be measured using a minimum 600VDC rated multimeter for Conext RL's and 1000VDC rated multimeter for Conext TL's and CL's.
The inverter should be powered down and the DC inputs disconnected to obtain an accurate isolation impedance reading.

Both the positive leg to earth and the negative leg to earth should be greater than 1.2MOhms. If they are displaying greater than 1.2MOhms then the ground fault error is being caused by a faulty inverter.
If you are measuring less than 1.2MOhms on either the positive leg to earth or the negative leg to earth then you will need to inspect your pv panels, wiring, isolators, breakers for moisture and wiring issues which could be resulting in the ground fault condition. 

The Conext RL, TL, CL's are transformerless inverters and require floating PV arrays.
