Are output filters and line reactors the same on VFDs?

Issue:
Output filters vs Line reactors

Product Line:
Drives.

Environment:
N/A

Cause:
Product features.

Resolution:
No. Output filters and Line reactors are not the same thing. (Load reactor if applied to the output)
Filters reduce DV/DT at the motor by filtering high frequencies. This helps protect the motor.
Line reactors add impedance to the line. This reduces current distortion between the drive and motor if applied to the output. It reduces current distortion on the line when applied to the line side of the drive.
See the information for the specific device for additional details.

Video: How is a faulted Altivar drive reset?

Issue:
Reset a  fault on a Altivar drive.

Product Line:
Altivar ATV variable speed drives

Environment:
All

Cause:
Need to reset a fault status.

Resolution:
There are multiple ways to reset a fault, including a logic input assignment and communication network.  But an easy way to reset a fault is to remove line voltage from L1,L2,L3.  Allow enough time for the display to go completely blank and then wait another 30seconds.  Reapply power.  If the fault appears again, it means that the VFD has re-faulted.

Note: Some faults have to be reset by removing and reapplying line voltage (power-cycling) the drive. Refer to your drive's Programming Manual for a list of faults that require a power cycle to clear.

The following video demonstrates how to configure a logic input fault reset function on the Altivar 212:

Are the ATV Process drives (ATV630, ATV650, ATV930, ATV950) conformal coated? What about the ATV320 and ATV340?

Issue:
ATV Process and ATV Machine drives conformal coated.

Product Line:
ALTIVAR 630
ALTIVAR 650
ALTIVAR 930
ALTIVAR 950
ALTIVAR 320
ALTIVAR 340

Environment:
All

Cause:
N/A

Resolution:
Altivar Process (ATV6x0 and ATV9x) withstand to harsh environments:
- Chemical class 3C3 conforming to IEC/EN 60721-3-3.
- Mechanical class 3S3 conforming to IEC/EN 60721-3-3.
Except:
- Altivar Process ATV630C22...C31N4 drives are certified as chemical class 3C2 and mechanical class 3S2 conforming to IEC/EN 60721.
- Altivar Process ATV930C22...C31N4 drives are certified as chemical class 3C2 and mechanical class 3S2 conforming to IEC/EN 60721.

Altivar Machine (ATV320 and ATV340) withstand to harsh environments:
- Chemical class 3C3 conforming to IEC/EN 60721-3-3.
- Mechanical class 3S2 conforming to IEC/EN 60721-3-3.

However, in all cases, there are no published certificates that we can send out.

What does "Connection in progress" mean on ATV630/ATV930 drives?

Issue:
Getting 'Connection in progress' on ATV630/ATV930 drives.

Product Line:
Altivar 630 Process Drive

Environment:
All serial numbers for Altivar 630 Process Drive

Cause:
N/A

Resolution:
This issue indicates the keypad is getting power from the drive but it is not communicating with it.
This almost always indicates the communication settings for the port are no longer at default.
  1. If SoMove or webserver connection is available, check the Modbus HMI baudrate and format.  The keypad is fixed at 19200 baud are requires 8 bits, Even parity, 1 stop bit. Changes to the communication settings are only taken into effect after reset, so a power cycle may be required. d
  2. If the keypad is remote mounted, and plugged into the HMI port on the front of the drive, move the connection cable to the Modbus network port since (as shown above) the default settings are compatible. If the keypad communicates, navigate to the Menu 6: Communication and then set the Modbus HMI baudrate to 19200 and the format to 8E1.  After power cycling the drive, move the keypad back to it's original port.
  3. You might have a loose HMI or a remote cable. Try re-seating the HMI and remote cable.
  4. If you've confirmed baudrate and format are set properly and that power has been cycled to the drive, try a known good keypad.
  5. Make sure there is no control voltage drop or grounding issues.
If issues remain the drive may require repair or replacement parts so contact Technical Support for further assistance.

Video: How to setup Plus/Minus Speeds on the Altivar Process Drive

Issue:
Set up Plus/Minus Speeds on the Altivar Process Drive.

Product Line:
Altivar Process Drive (ATV630, ATV930, ATV650, ATV950, ATV660, ATV960, ATV680, ATV980)

Environment:
All serial numbers for Altivar Process Drive

Resolution:

To Program the +/- Speeds
  1. [Complete settings] [Command and Reference]
  2. Set [Freq Switch Assign] rFC to [Ref Freq Channel 2] FR2
  3. Set [Ref Freq Channel 2] FR2 to [Ref Frequency via DI] UPdt
  4. Go to [Complete settings] [Generic functions] [+/- speed]
  5. Assign [+ Speed Assign] USP
  6. Assign [- Speed Assign] dSP
  7. Assign [Ref Frequency Save] Str

To adjust the increment of plus and minus speed, adjust the ACC and DEC. If ACC is set to 6 seconds, it will ramp 10 Hz for every second that the +speed is active (60Hz range / 6sec = 10Hz/sec).  Keep it active for 6 seconds and output will reach 60 Hz. To make +speed increase at a slower rate, increase ACC.  To make it faster, decrease ACC.  The same logic applies to -speed and DEC.

What can cause the ATV630 Process Drive not connect to WIFER?

Issue:
ATV630 Process Drive not connecting to WIFER.

Product Line:
ATV630, ATV930, Process Drive

Environment:
All models using the WIFER TCSEGWB13FA0 Wi-Fi Access Point

Cause:
Cannot connect to WiFi.

Resolution:
1.The demo box has two cables with RJ45 connectors.  The larger of the two is a Modbus cable and cannot be used to connect to the Wi-Fi.  The smaller flat cable which also has RJ45 connectors on each end is the cable needed for the Ethernet connection to the WIFER.  See the attached picture.
2. Disconnect from local LAN, if connected. Discover the Wifer device on available networks. Double-Click to connect. Then open a Browser and goto www.a.com.
3. Depending on release version of the OS of your laptop, tablet, the WIFER WEB site is automatically opened as soon as the Web Browser is launched. But with other OS it could be necessary to enter a simple URL like "www.a.com" in the Browser line to force the Browser to open and show the WIFER Web site.
4. Deactivate Pop up blocker.
