Brad and Tess, a builder and designer couple from Regent Homes, had just finished building a new Mediterranean-inspired home for their family. With all the colours and materials in place, all the couple had to do was pick out the perfect switches and sockets to complement the whole design. Clipsal Solis™, Clipsal’s newest collection (brought to New Zealand by PDL) was chosen for this task. Find out why and how the couple used Clipsal Solis™ in their home.
About Brad and Tess’ home
Regent Homes is a builder company based in Adelaide, specialising in custom-designed and high-quality luxury home builders. Co-owners Brad and Tess had recently built a new Mediterranean-inspired home for their family. They wanted to ensure the home was stylish and luxurious but also catered to their busy family’s needs. As an interior designer, Tess knew how important details are to the overall experience of a space. The couple’s two-storey home features earthy colours and natural textures of timber and stone, while retaining a light coastal feel. Accents of warmth come from maroon marble, cabinetry in a soft clay-pink, and bronze handles and tapware.
With the colours and materials in place, one thing the couple needed to pick was the right switches and sockets for their new home. They found the answer in the elegant new Clipsal Solis™ Collection’s Solis T Series range, linked with a PDL Wiser smart home system.
Choosing to use Clipsal Solis™ in the home
The Clipsal Solis™ collection is a new range of switches and sockets from Clipsal, brought to New Zealand by PDL. It is a modern take on a timeless style that blends beautiful minimalism with smart home functionality. It is available in two ranges: Solis and Solis T Series.

The Solis T Series range is available in Platinum Aluminium, Ebony Aluminium, and White Ceramic finishes. It blends the old-school feel of robust toggles and brushed metal with modernist, perfect square edges and thin, flush covers.
Solis is fully compatible with PDL Wiser Smart Home for scalable smart home automation too and offers additional features like dimmers, USB Type-C fast chargers, and smart power points for even greater convenience and control.
Why Brad and Tess loved the look of Solis
Tess says she was immediately impressed by Clipsal Solis. She knew the Solis T Series switches and sockets in the satin-soft, yet hardwearing White Ceramic would be beautiful in their home. “I like how it’s so unique. The detailing is really considered and well thought out, it’s definitely an eye catcher. We’ve had lots of compliments from visitors. It’s interesting that so many people have noticed them!” says Tess.

Brad says Solis was the perfect addition to their modern build. “The Solis range is really cutting edge — it’s a beautifully engineered and designed product. It’s almost like a little piece of artwork in your wall, with how clean and elegant it looks.”
Adam Nimmo of Envy Electrical, the electrician working on the home, says the innovative design of Solis provides an excellent option for clients wanting a high-end product to complete their home’s interior. “The customer feedback has been great already. Solis looks really fantastic fitted off, and on tiles too. Even mixing and matching, it looks awesome.”
Using Solis for smart home functionalities
Brad and Tess knew they wanted smart home automation to accommodate for their family’s busy lives. The couple were already familiar with the PDL Wiser system, as Regent Homes offers it as part of their build package for customers.
“Smart home automation is a very important part of the home these days, and we’ve offered a Wiser smart home as standard for a few years now,” explains Brad. “There’ll be a time very soon where if a home’s not set up to be a smart home, then it’ll almost be an out-of-date home.”
The couple worked with Adam and the Envy Electrical team on their electric home design plan to ensure Wiser would run all the features they wanted. Using the Wiser smart phone app, they have easy control of their lights and dimmers, air conditioning, blinds, security cameras, and intercoms, and can even track their energy use.

Adam says it was straightforward to link Wiser with Clipsal Solis T Series. “We do a huge amount with Wiser so it’s awesome that it all works in with the Solis range. And the way the mechs click in I found it really easy to put together and use.”
Tess says Solis blends beautiful design with functionality, making it ideal for a smart home that looks elegant but still has all the benefits of Wiser. “I love the app,” she laughs. “It’s really easy to use and super user-friendly. I love the feature where it tells you how many lights you’ve left on, because I’m terrible at turning switches off. All I do is open my app and tap ‘All Off’ and it turns off all the lights in the house.”
Brad agrees: “This is the first time I’ve had this much smart home automation. It’s ultra-convenient to be able to control your whole home from your fingertips. It feels a bit luxurious, that’s for sure.”
To finish off the home’s smart home functionality, the couple also integrated PDL smoke alarms, motion sensors, and the award-winning Iconic Outdoor power points (also Wiser-compatible).
A successful end to a new build
Clipsal Solis™ is an exciting new benchmark for homes and is set to change the landscape when it comes to high-end electrical details. For Brad, it has changed his view of such a simple home feature forever. “I don’t know that I could ever go back to a normal light switch or power point. Solis is just such a beautiful product that complements our home perfectly.”
