How Alisa and Lysandra use PDL in their builds

Interiors experts Alisa and Lysandra Fraser have just completed brand new homes for themselves and their families, sharing the journey in their online show “The Design Duo: Twin vs Twin”, where the sisters competed in each episode to see who could create the best rooms.

One thing the pair agreed on from the outset? Choosing PDL for their switches and power points, smart home system and security.

From the ground up

The project began with the sisters designing two adjoining townhouses on a large section in Somerton Park, South Australia.

Early on, they saw a showroom consultant for advice on their switches and outlet choices and for tailored electrical plans. Alisa and Lysandra both have school-age children, so wanted homes that were comfortable and stylish, but also practical and easy to manage for busy family life.

At the showroom, they explored the wide range of switches and learnt how PDL Wiser’s scalable wireless smart home automation could give them simple control of lighting, heating, home security and other appliances through its smartphone app, or even using voice commands.

Alisa says that creating their electrical plans in the consultation meant they had one less thing to worry about. “Talking to a consultant one-on-one has just made everything so much clearer and more streamlined. You know that they’ve handed it over to the electrician and you don’t have to think about it anymore.”

Distinctly different styles

While the townhouses look exactly the same from the outside, the moment you step through the front door of each home the twins’ distinctly individual style is apparent.

Alisa’s home

Alisa’s home has a bright, light aesthetic in cream and white tones. Natural stone and marble feature throughout, with accents of brass, brushed gold and white. She has softened the space with curved details in furniture, accessories, recessed shelving and even artworks.

She chose PDL Iconic Essence in Arctic White for her home. Its clean white finish complements her colour palette, the rounded edges echo the curves in her styling, and the birch trim adds a complementary natural texture.

The Iconic Essence range has a variety of additional options and Alisa chose power points with USB chargers for her butler’s pantry and home office so devices can be charged easily, and bedside switches with dimmers for simple control of lights.

Lysandra’s home

Next door, the scene is set for Lysandra’s bold style with the dark timbered flooring and staircase of the entranceway reflected in a huge bronze segmented mirror wall leading visitors into the kitchen and living area.

These darker tones continue throughout her home in cabinetry and furnishings, alongside accents of rich green, marble, black and brass.

Lysandra selected PDL Iconic Styl for her switches and power points. The dark metallic finish of Silver Shadow is the ideal partner for the moodier textures and a striking contrast against white walls in other areas. She has used these switches to stunning effect on the giant mirror wall and for an extra luxe touch on the slab marble in the ensuite bathroom.

In the master bedroom, Iconic Styl in the lighter Crowne shade sits beautifully against the marbled bedhead. An Iconic Styl motion sensor switch at the foot of her staircase triggers tread lights automatically.

Smarter homes with Wiser

PDL Wiser provided the smart finishing touches. PDL Iconic switches link easily with the Wiser system, and using Wiser Connected Smart Sockets means other appliances like side lamps, gaming consoles or even heated towel rails can be added and controlled with the Wiser by SE smart device app too.

Alisa and Lysandra can use the app to create Wiser ‘Moments’, which link a selection of activities to a single need that you can activate with a screen tap or voice command — like a ‘Bedtime’ command that switches off gaming devices, air con and lights upstairs once the kids are on their way to bed, or a ‘Morning’ command that opens the blinds and turns on the music before you get up.

You can pair what you want to that Moment and it will automatically do it for you,” says Lysandra.

Outside, both homes have Iconic Outdoor switches, so it’s easy to plug in the pool cleaner or any other electrical items needed for outdoor entertaining or gardening.

With a little forward planning and some expert help from PDL, Alisa and Lysandra have created stunning smart homes that will look after them and their families now, and into the future.
