Planning for safety
With reports of a current renovation boom in NZ, it’s important to consider how big a part electrical will play in your plans. Doing your research and having a well-thought-out electrical plan will help you save and prepare an adequate budget upfront, as well as ensure all safety measures are thoroughly considered.
Amy Griffiths, PDL’s Home Solutions Consultant highlighted the importance of getting an electrician involved early in the process. “The electrician can assess the current situation of your house, check the electrical wiring, and examine the current switchboard to advise if it can cope with the planned renovation or if it requires a switchboard upgrade. In the case that rewiring or an upgrade is needed, you will be given a cost indication to factor into the budget” says Griffiths.
“The worst thing is when someone is in the mid or later stages of a renovation and they find out their current home’s electrical system, such as the distribution board, isn’t going to cope with the plans they have” says Griffiths.
